Power Kiting at Quex - 25-09-2010Power Kiting at Quex. A group of Explorers and older Scouts attended a Power Kiting session at Quex Park on Saturday. The sun shone and the winds were fairly strong, 10 young people attended our 1st ever day trying their hand at the art of Power Kiting, Quex Park very kindly loaned us a field for the day and with more or less perfect weather conditions the County Kent scout team took us through the steps of Kite flying. Power Kiting ---the art of getting muddy in style!! A Power Kite is a large kite starting from 1 and a half meter's designed to provide significant amounts of pull to the kite flyer. The young people started of with these smaller kites and were shown how to harness the wind, it looks alot easier than it actually is!! Once proficient with the smaller kites they moved onto 2 & 3 meter kites. After lunch break they had another session on the larger kites improving on the skills already learned, over the last hour for those who were thought to be proficient enough they moved onto the buggies, a task much harder than it looks, but by those who tried it a massive sense of achievement. The ultimate in adrenaline rush, being pulled or scudding on your feet, or being pulled along in a buggy. During the day we saw some spectacular accidents, not in respect of injuries but in the ways of falling gracefully to meet the ground, not on purpose of course. I think on the whole it was 10 nil to the wind, but I think I can say that everyone that took part had an exilerating day and will certainly be back for more!1!! more news articles... | Upcoming eventsLatest newsSurvival Camp at Quex |
